Project Management

Basecamp is a project management and internal communications tool perfect for remote teams worldwide. It keeps teams in one place for their daily work eliminating the need to constantly switch between different tools and software. Plus, Basecamp has an awesome take on working remotely and enjoying life!

Basecamp has been around since 1999 and they, literally, wrote the book on remote working! Starting out with just 4 people, they are now a company of around 50 people spread across 32 cities around the world. Whilst their HQ is in Chicago everyone at Basecamp is free to live and work wherever they want. The company has an ethos that we love and a great way of looking at business and people, "Our goals have always been the same: have fun, do exceptional work, build the best product in the business, experiment, pay attention to the details, treat people right, tell the truth, have a positive impact on the world around us, give back and keep learning."

Basecamp is a project management and internal communications tool that seamlessly keeps everything in one place. By creating a project you can find everything you need related to that project all together in one place. From the people involved, discussion, files, tasks, deadlines etc, its all there. The great thing with working like this is that eliminates the need to refer back to email inboxes looking for that thread and for the need to switch back and forth between different apps.

Once you have set up a project you will have the following:

Message Boards: to keep entire conversations together on a single page. No more digging through email or tying to reassemble a story from fragmented replies.

To-do Lists: for all the work you need to do, assign tasks, and set due dates. Basecamp will follow up on overdue tasks for you.

Schedule: displaying any dated to-dos and events for that project. Everyone on the project can see it, so they’ll all know what’s coming up.

Documents, files, and images: everyone on the project has access, people will know exactly where to find everything.

Real-time group chat (Campfires): lets you ask quick questions and get equally quick answers. All without reaching for a separate app.

Automatic Check-ins: let you ask your team questions on a regular basis, with all the replies rolled up in one easy-to-digest thread.

Because Basecamp are all about remote working, work-life balance and productivity, therefore it has options to turn off notifications so you can work in your own way, automatic check-ins to avoid micro management whilst still maintaining an overview of what's going on and how projects are progressing and it frees up time for productive work that moves projects forward.

Price tiers start with Basecamp Person, good for freelancers, personal projects, students or families but is limited on features. Upgrading from that is Basecamp Business costing $99 per month and includes all the features, unlimited projects, unlimited users and no per-user fees.
